Uploading a corrected version of a file? |
Briefly put:
The version of moe.'s 9/14/01 show currently on the archive suffers from a corrupt .SHN, which results in a truncated version of "Meat". You can see other people commenting on this on the show's entry (
http://www.archive.org/details/moe2001-09-14.shnf ) - it's not a case of my personal copy being corrupt. I've re-downloaded the file three times, just to make sure.
However! I just acquired a version of the .SHNs from someone who acquired them from a source other than the Archive. According to him, the fingerprints on the files are the same as the Archive fingerprints, with the exception of "Meat", which has a different fingerprint on the Archive. I listened, and the tracks (Archive's version of d3t1 and this other version of d3t2) segue fine, no clicks or jumps or anything like that, and are clearly from the same recording.
So it seems the version that was uploaded to the Archive was corrupted at some point or another.
I'd like to go about offering a corrected version - what exactly would the process be?

If it's your upload, you can go to Edit item > Item manager > checkout and re-upload the file yourself. If it's not your upload, you can have the original uploader do it (if you know who it is), or you can upload the full fileset to another identifier and then we can remove the bad one. We just can't allow people to log into filesets that aren't theirs, unfortunately, for various security reasons...

Gotcha. So if I can't get in touch with the original uploader, I have to upload the entire 1.0GB concert? I'd like to get the real .SHN out there, but I don't know if I can stomach that much upload... especially since 90% of it would be byte-for-byte identical to what's already on the Archive. Redundancy kinda squicks me.
I take it no admin would upload the corrected .SHN on my behalf?
